How to Raise Money and Budget
  1. The committee needs to come up with a plan to fund the activities for Family Week whether through monetary donations or donations of services or goods.
  2. The fundraising plan needs to be made well in advance of Family Week and the funds raised at least six months prior to the week.
  3. A budget needs to be set up in order to allocate the funds to the various committees. The “Family of the Year” Reception, which includes a dinner and gifts for all the families involved, requires the largest budget. Printing fees and Family Time prizes may be second in cost.
  4. Businesses may be more willing to donation to your cause if your organization is designated as a non-profit 501c3 organization. To receive a valid tax ID number, a considerable legal process needs to be followed. Legal advice should be sought.
  5. The main sources of revenue for Family Week have been fundraisers; grant money, and donations of goods and services from businesses.
  6. Holding a fundraiser is a successful way to raise money. (Grants and donations often have stipulations, whereas the money earned from the fundraiser can be used as needed.) For two years, the Family Week fundraising committee has held a golf tournament, dinner, and auction.
  7. We have found success by using our area high schools to do our fundraising. It is difficult to involve high school students in wanting to spend time with their families. Nevertheless, encouraging high school students, committees, and organizations to be part of supporting and raising funds for family "enhancement", helps this age group of students focus on the importance of families. We have experienced when the students become part of sustaining the family and project, they are sensitized to the impact of positive parenting. It is extremely beneficial because this age group is normally the next in line to begin a family.
