- Present the Family Week program to school board leaders and
to PTA councils and ask for their support in strengthening families in the
community. (See sample letter.)
- Schools can support the Art/Essay contest by sending entry
forms home with students or by teachers entering class work based on the
theme.
- Principals, teachers, or PTA boards can nominate a "Family of the Year."
- Schools can decorate for Family Week. The Family Week committee can deliver
banners, gold ribbon and buttons for staff members to be used during the week.
- PTA organizations can plan family activities for their schools during Family
Week. The Family Week committee can offer a drawing to encourage schools to
participate. Schools can submit their plans for activities and a drawing can
be held during Family Week. One example is to offer an assembly to the
selected school. Local businesses provided the assembly and prizes for the
school. If that is not possible, other incentives may be offered.
- Schools or PTA can offer a "Parenting Workshop."
- It can be difficult to involve high school students. We find success by
allowing the high school and PTA to host the "Family of the Year"
Reception, to assist in the "Family Time" contest and using high
school organizations to aid in fundraising.
